Avalanche risk assessment is a complex task. Current methods use qualitative analysis to measure snow density which makes it hard for snow safety professionals to be sure they’re evaluating in a consistent manner. This device aims to more accurately quantify snow density in order increase mountain safety.
Aside from typical sealing and durability considerations, the housing design required careful positioning of the load cell components to ensure that trapped snow and ice would not affect the accuracy of measurements.
An innovative method to connect and disconnect the pressure blade was designed to simplify user experience for quicker transitions between snow study sites.
