High Alpine Integration - 3 days, 2 nights on the Spearhead Traverse

By Robbie Roberts
Experience tells us that great design outcomes happen when there is a strong integration between all disciplines of a product development team. Strong integration comes with good communication and trust. What’s the best way to establish that? Three days of snow shredding adventure.

Form3 has been working closely with the G3 team for 4 years, so when the opportunity came for Senior Designer Robbie Roberts and Engineer Mark Mosher to join the G3 team they jumped at the chance. The Spearhead traverse is a westcoast classic high alpine ski route that starts on Blackcomb Mountain and tracks a 35km horseshoe shape back to Whistler Mountain. Spending two nights allowed the team some time to hunt down some soft snow along the route. Lines where skied on Mt. Pattison, Mt. Trorey, Tremor Mountain, and the beautiful Mr. Fitzimmons.

Of course, no G3 ski trip is complete without some testing of gear. The team was packing a range of prototypes from active projects to be put through the paces. The FINDr ski was thoroughly enjoyed and some refinements to the ION binding saw some rigorous ergonomic evaluation. G3 President Oliver Steffen closed the weekend off right by testing his skins right on to the patio at the Garibaldi lift company. A fine finish for a great adventure.
