Liquid Metal Guitars

Overview

Phil Cook approached Form3 with a hand cut wooden mock-up and the vision to produce high end guitars made from metal. Inspired by the unique look and sound properties of rare aluminum cellos and violins, Phil envisioned a metal guitar with smooth curves and a finish that would shine like the polished chrome on a '57 Cadillac.

Phil's first guitar, the M1 TV Jones Premium, saw his vision come to life. M1 guitars are CNC machined in Vancouver from single blocks of 6061 T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, chrome plated, and hand polished to a mirror finish. Pickups are custom designed by TV Jones and give the guitars a warm sound that is also clear.

The M1

Form3 took Phil's initial shape and refined it for CNC machining, providing a large radiused edge treatment that highlights the chrome finish and feels great to hold. A custom designed head shape further enhances the curvaceous form.

Aluminum is nearly 1/3 the weight of steel, but still too heavy to be used for a solid guitar body as is commonly done with wood. To achieve a weight of 4.2kg, Form3 designed the body to be machined out on the inside and closed by a precision fitting rear cover held in place by countersunk fasteners. As well as reducing weight, the hollow body further enhances the guitar's sound.
